Rosie's Yarn Cellar offers a variety of classes for knitters and crocheters of all levels. We have 6 week beginner's classes for those of you who have never held a knitting needle in your life to intensive lace design workshops. Can't make a scheduled class? We offer private lessons during business hours for $20 per hour. Please call ahead to arrange a time which is convenient for you and the instructor. We also have Sunday workshops which are based on learning new techniques through small projects, such as socks, hats or mittens. Please check our Classes and Events Calendar for current class schedules.

Current classes on our roster include:

Beginning Knitting

What to expect: The basic introductory class for those who've never held needles, or for anyone who has but needs a refresher and wants a thorough grounding. Classes meet for six weeks, from 6 to 8 in the evening (unless otherwise indicated). All materials are included in the class fee.

What you'll learn: How to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off; how to decrease; how to read a simple pattern; how to measure gauge; how to seam knitted pieces; how to make a buttonhole.

What you should bring: Nothing but your enthusiasm (and glasses if you wear them!).

What you'll take home: Three small projects, usually a cotton facecloth, a simple watch cap, and a small felted purse; plus various needles.

Sweater Classes

What to expect: Classes meet for six weeks, from 6 to 8 in the evening on weeknights. During the first week you'll select the materials for the sweater of your choice.

What you'll learn: Choosing the right yarn for the right pattern, measuring gauge, reading patterns, increasing and decreasing, blocking and assembly.

What you should know: How to cast on, knit and purl.

What you should bring: Yourself!

What you'll take home: A sweater!

Crochet Sessions

What to expect: Personalized instruction for those who want a project based crochet class or for those who are just learning.

What you'll learn: These sessions are geared towards meeting your individual needs. You can learn a new technique, get help deciphering patterns, learn from scratch or design a project.

What you should bring: Materials you may need are available for sale at the shop during class hours. You are welcome to bring a work in progress.

What you'll take home: New skills and new projects.

Technique Tuesdays

This summer from 12-2 we're hosting what we call Technique Tuesdays. Stop by the shop and for $10 or so you can learn a new tip or trick to make your knitting a better experience. Topics may include using double pointed needles, knitting a mobius, socks on circular needles, or continental knitting. See calendar for details.

Sunday Workshops

Each Sunday from 1-5 we offer a different workshop. It may be lace knitting, basic hats, fixing mistakes, a project based class such as a project from Knitty.com or a popular Ravelry project. Check the calendar for details.
