Two scarves that are perfect for beginning laceknitters: both use variations of the pattern called “Feather and Fan.”  It produces an elegant-looking lace, yet is easy to memorize and only one row requires decreases and yarn-overs.  The samples are shown in hand-painted yarns, but there’s plenty of room to play with colors and yarns to suit your fancy.
