The Art of Fair Isle Knitting A great all around Fair Isle book. It includes a great history section with color pictures of very adorable ladies and gents from Shetland; traditional examples of sweaters, tams and vests; contemporary patterns you can follow mindlessly and a section on color choice that is one of the best out there. Picking colors for a Fair Isle is daunting and a wonderful rainy day activity. Even if you never cast on, getting out the colored pencils, graph paper and yarn scraps is so fun! (Maybe I'm just crazy?)

The Art of Knitting 1892
A reproduction of Butterick knitting patterns from, you guessed it, 1892. A knitting archeaologist's dream! Very reminiscent of the Weldon's patterns, but published in the US which means they are going to use some different language. Fascinating to read! |
