Rosie’s Reaches Out

by Andrea

Join Rosie’s Yarn Cellar this holiday season as we work to bring some yarn-y goodness to knitters who need it!
We will be collecting yarn for Interim House, a six-month drug and alcohol residential and outpatient program for women, located in the Mount Airy neighborhood in Philadelphia. They started a knitting program in 2004, which has grown in popularity since. The Interim House Knitting Program relies on donations for materials.

Here’s how you can be a part of Rosie’s Reaches Out:
1. Starting on Friday, November 25, through Sunday, December 31, bring at least one skein of yarn to Rosie’s to donate to the Interim House Knitting Program.
2. You will receive a coupon with your name on it for participating.
3. During the month of January 2012, bring the coupon to the shop, and receive 5% off the total price of your purchase.

That was easy, right? Here’s your chance to help other knitters who do not have the means or opportunity to buy yarn, while Rosie’s shows our appreciation for your generosity with a little New Year’s perk!

Ready to be part of Rosie’s Reaches Out? Please note the fine print below.
1. All donations must be complete skeins of yarn, with a label; no partial skeins will be accepted.
2. One coupon per person, period. You may donate one skein or ten skeins, but each person will be eligible for one coupon only. After all, the idea is giving, not receiving!
3. You may bring donations to the shop any time we are open; we will not accept donations via mail, or especially not left outside the door!
4. Coupons must be presented in order to get the 5% discount between January 1 and January 31, 2012.

We are hoping that Rosie’s Reaches Out will become an annual event – so do a little stash-diving for a good cause, and have a happy holiday season!

Save the Penguins!

by Nicole

As some of you may know an oil spill off the east coast of  New Zealand’s North Island has contaminated the feathers of  Blue penguins native to the region. In an effort to keep the penguins from preening, provide warmth and incidentally make them even more adorable than they already are, knitters around the world have banded together to knit 100% wool penguin sweaters.

Skeinz in Napier, New Zealand are taking up a collection of sweaters for penguins in need. We here at Rosies are ready provide any yarn, needles, support or answers to any questions you may have about this joint effort to save the penguins! For more information please visit here to attain sweater pattern and shipping address.

New Manos Limited Edition Color is here!

by Sara Beth
Limited Edition

Manos Limited Edition 1

With the cooling temperatures, all the usual autumnal decorations are coming out. Pumpkins, apples, gourds, and mums. They’re everywhere. Every year, the mums call to me, begging to be bought and planted in my yard. The many shades of pink and purple are so delicate, yet make such a strong statement, as if to say “Look here! Summer is ending and Winter is coming! Here’s one last song of color before the snow!”

When I first saw this Limited Edition Manos Clasica color, my thoughts immediately went to the mums I bought this weekend. A sweet pop of color, the perfect blend of shades. The delicate pinks in this (subtle) multi can be your farewell to summer. Your last song of color before the snow begins. Don’t worry, the colors are perfect for springtime too. Or in the middle of winter, when everything outside is gray, gray, and gray, this colorway will remind you of the flowers of the past and the flowers of the future.  But don’t wait. Much like the quickly passing summer days, this colorway won’t be around forever…
