Formerly called Alpaca Perlita, this isn't just laceweight alpaca: this is laceweight baby alpaca, even softer and silkier than the usual. How fine is it? 437 yards per 50-gram skein. What will it do well? Lace, obviously: shawls and scarves. But two strands held together might make a terrific stockinette fabric for mittens or gloves. 437 yards should be enough for a dressy, narrow scarf. Maybe this is the way knitting should be: the money isn't in the yarn--even though it's a luxury fiber--all the value of the finished piece is what you put into it: the design, the skill, the time. |
